About Vizhinjam Rock

Cut cave temple which dates back to the 18th century, these rocks are cut in the form of a cave temple. These relics are still taken care of and is just 1 km away from Kovalam beach.

The rock is sculpted in one part to in the form of Lord Dakshinamurti. The outer parts of the rocks are sculpted incomplete and have been given the form of Lord Shiva.

The village of this place was actually the capital for the chieftains who were ruling the southern part of Kerala. It was also a factory for the Britishers and the Dutch people but now nothing of it can be seen here.
