About Turkey
Expect the unexpected seems to be the mantra for Turkey. There is a set mindset with which tourists visit the country. They think of Turkey as a not so developed country with some old ruins portrayed as tourist destinations. They just can not be farther from the truth. Turkey is one of the very few countries that is considered to be transcontinental.Situated in Middle East, the country bridges the gap between Asia and Europe. It stretches from Anatolian Peninsula (Western Asia) to Balkan region (Southeastern Europe). Turkey is bordered by whopping 8 countries and 3 seas. It has Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, and Syria as its neighbors. It also has a coastline with Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Aegean Sea. Turkey's geography too is as varied as it gets. There are splendid mountains segregating it from its neighbors, beautiful inland lakes, small but excellent coastline and vast flat lands.
The many mosques in Turkey are probably few of the most prized possessions of Islamic culture. The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are among the most beautiful piece of architecture you will see anywhere in the world. The unique culture that you will see in the narrow streets will really mesmerize you.
Ankara is the capital city of Turkey but the largest city is the famous Istanbul. It has become not only the financial capital of Turkey but also the cultural capital of the country. It is so full of attractions that it is hard to set a time in which you will be able to see it all. Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque are the two most important attractions of Istanbul. Izmir, Bursa, Adana are the other important cities of Turkey.
