Rameswaram

Rameswaram, one of the holiest cities in India is located on a beautiful island. It used to be the southernmost part of India and is separated from Sri Lanka by a small Pamban channel. The hindu mythology states that Rameswaram is the place where Lord Rama created a bridge across the sea to reach Sri Lanka.

The town of Rameswarm is a major Hindu pilgrimage town and is home to many famous temples and shrines, all of which have a history behind them. It is home to one of the 12 jyotirlingas, the Ramanathswamy Temple. It is situated on the Pamban island on the gulf of Munnar. It is well connected to the roads and railway bridges. The house of late President, APJ Abdul Kalam is also locate here.

The Ramanathswamy temple is an important landmark here and has the longest corridor in the whole of Asia. Besides the famous temples, Agniteertham is known for its sacred waters, where pilgrims take a bath to cleanse their souls. They perform poojas at the seashore, dedicated to their ancestors.
