About Murugan Temple

The Murugan Temples located is Chennai are not merely places of worship. They are the repositories of the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the land. Over the years, the sculptural abilities of the craftsmen have found reflection in those temples. The Murugan Temples of Tamil Nadu are embodiments of inventive excellence and capture the essence of lifestyles of its human beings. Lord Murugan is surprisingly respected inside the kingdom of Tamil Nadu. He is understood by way of numerous other names like Skanda, Kartikeya and Subramanya. He is believed to be a discovered individual and a valiant warrior.

The son of Lord Shiva and Parvati, Lord Murugan is extolled in the 2000 year vintage Sangam Literature and also within the hymns of Adi Shankaracharya and Kalidasa. There are as many as 54 Murugan Temples within the kingdom of Tamil Nadu. These Murugan Temples were constructed over an extended time frame during the rule of several dynasties like the Cholas and the Pandyas. Of all of the Murugan Temples there are six shrines which can be maximum commemorated. These famous shrines are referred to as Aaru Padai Veedu. According to legend they have been visited by Lord Murugan himself when he changed into combating the demon Soorapadam.
