Karamana river originates from the southern part of the western ghats and enters Trivandrum and finally merges with the Arabian sea in Kovalam. There are extensive fields of tropical plantations all around the river and one can see greenery all around.

The river has two dams which are known as Aruvikkara dam and Peppara dam. This river has a very rich biodiversity. There are many different kinds of plants and trees like bamboo, cane, mangroves and also fishes like cherumeen, vaala, nedumeen, etc.
