The Island of Pathiramanal is a small island situated on the border between Alaphuzza and Kottayam District in Kerala. The island is surrounded by the Vembanad Lake and offers a most scenic view. It is home to many rare species of migratory birds.
The name Pathiramanal means 'sands of night'. The island is a bird watcher’s paradise. It is a natural abode for around 91 local species of birds and 50 migratory birds. Accessible only by backwater cruise, motor boat or speed boat, it is refreshing break from the usual urban landscape.
