About Kannagi Temple

At a separation of 13 Kms from Kumily, Mangaladevi Temple otherwise called Kannagi Temple is 2000 years of age demolished stone sanctuary situated in thick timberland at the northern limit of the Periyar Sanctuary. It is situated at a height of 1337 meters. Worked in the customary Kerala style of engineering, this sanctuary is committed to Mangaladevi or Kannagi, the key character of the Tamil epic Sillapadhikaram. As per the epic, Mangaladevi torched Madurai after her better half was erroneously blamed for being a hoodlum and slaughtered. This sanctuary is open for open just on the full moon day of April-May Chithra Purnami. Since it's situated inside the Periyar Sanctuary, extraordinary consent is required to visit the place. Consents can be acquired from Wildlife Warden, Thekkady.
