As per the epic, Mangaladevi torched Madurai after her better half was erroneously blamed for being a hoodlum and slaughtered. This sanctuary is open for open just on the full moon day of April-May Chithra Purnami. Since it's situated inside the Periyar Sanctuary, extraordinary consent is required to visit the place. Consents can be acquired from Wildlife Warden, Thekkady.
