Fairs & Festivals

Ladakh Festival is a notable two-week event that provides you the first hand experience of cultural heritage of Ladakh. It is one of the non-monastic events of Ladakh organized by the Kashmir and Jammu government each September to fill the whole region with vibrant burst of vitality.

Ladakh Festival brings you the festive ambiance which is basically a sports and cultural party full of immense warmth and joy. It is a call for over hundreds of spectators from across the globe where you get exhilarated about every highlight of the fest that vary from wild lion and yak dancing to music presentations to craft exhibition to yummy dining and tasting intoxicating barley beer called Chang.

The festival starts with a long procession where the spotlights is thrown on several cultural troupes and village contingents including local leaders, school kids and dancers perform assorted dances on the conventional tunes played by orchestra. During this time, the local lads and women wear breathtaking outfits to divert your attention and walk in a line to give you a complete carnival-like feel.

This traditional fiesta promotes the region’s centuries-old performing arts. Whilst here you can easily understand the folk heritage and other prominent traditions of the place in a very less time. As a result, when the whole procession stops at the polo ground of Leh, some refreshing folk and dance performances are showcased.

Plus, some non-stop shows like a fortnight of musical concerts, lama dances and folk ceremonies are also staged to entertain you. However, the most intriguing for your eyes are the archery events arranged at Skara (near Leh).

Come here to purify your soul as a traveler by locking yourself in this week long extravaganza. Also get pleasures from some extremely adventurous activities like white-water rafting, trekking and polo matches that are arranged here to make your Ladakh tour a successful one.
