The Jaigad Fort is located about 14 kms from Ganpatipule in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. It is situated atop a cliff that overlooks the Arabian Sea. Jaigad Fort is called the fort of victory. It spreads over an are of 13 acres. There is a temple there dedicated to Lord Ganesh. There are wells to store water. The palace of Kanhoji Angre is also there.
The fort, although small has a huge significance in the history of Marathas. The port of the Jaigad is even older than the fort and is known for being one of the chief ports in Western coast of India.
