About Jain temple

The most religious attractions in Jaisalmer are the Jain temples, nestled inside the majestic Jaisalmer Fort. They are considered to be old, holy shrines dedicated to Jain Tirthankaras and dates back to 12th and 15th century.

There are 7 Jain temples, built and looked upon by the Swetambhar sect. These temples made of beautiful yellow sandstone inside the fort walls have intricate carvings like the temples of Ranakpur and Mount Abu. The temples appear golden and complement the backdrop of the Thar desert.

The architecture, location and the religious significance of these temples make them a worth visit. Thousands of pilgrims visit these Jain temples to worship the Jain Tirthankaras and explore the archeological value attached to each of those temples. Animal and human figures are carved on the walls of the temples, in Dilwara style.
