About Gadisar lake

Built by Raja Rawat Jaisal, the first ruler of Jaisalmer, the Gadisar Lake is among the prime tourist locations in Jaisalmer. The lake has been rebuilt and revamped over the years by Maharaja Garisisar Singh. It is a historic lake, which was used as a water conservation tank originally. It was built in 1400 AD.

The lake is situated in the south of the city and treats you with breathtaking surroundings. Among the key activities to do here include a boat ride when the sun sets. Besides, there are many pavilions and shrines on the banks of the lake, making it asthetically beautiful. The lake never dries up, which is interesting because it is in the middle of the desert.

The lake welcomes a plethora of migratory birds which can be seen near to the lake. It is a must visit for the birdwatchers. Besides the boating and birdwatching experience, you can go the lake and enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of the place.
