About Memorial de Caen

The Memorial de Caen is a historical center and war dedication in Caen, Normandy, France recognizing World War II and the Battle for Caen. All the more for the most part, the historical center is committed to the historical backdrop of the 20th century, for the most part centered around the delicacy of harmony. Its aim is "pay a tribute to the martyred city of the freedom" yet in addition to tell "what was the horrendous story of the 20th century in a soul of compromise".

The structure and grounds are situated in the northern rural areas of the city of Caen on the site of an old brick house. The draftsman was Jacques Millet and the first guardian was Yves Degraine. The commemoration is devoted to the historical backdrop of brutality and concentrated, exceptional clashes in the 20th Century and especially World War II. The exhibition hall was formally opened on June 6, 1988 by the French President Francois Mitterrand. The first structure manages World War II, taking a gander at the causes and course of the contention.

The gallery was in this way broadened:

• In 1991 a display devoted to the Nobel Peace Prize was included.

• Three remembrance cultivates, The American Garden, The British Garden and the Canadian Garden were committed to the three primary partnered countries associated with freeing France.

• An augmentation concentrating on the Cold War and the look for Peace was opened by President Jacques Chirac in 2002. It contains killed warheads, planes and a section of the Wall of Berlin.
