Ukhimath is situated in the Rudraprayag district, at a height of 1317 metres above the sea level. It is also called or written as Okhimath at times. It is the home of Lord Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar during winters. They are worshipped in the Omkareshwar temple during winters, when the Kedarnath temple remains closed.
The main inhabitants of Ukhimath are the head priests of Kedarnath. The snow capped peaks of the Himalayan range are distinctly visible from Ukhimath.
