Shanghumukham beach

Towards the west of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), close to the Trivandrum International Airport and Veli Tourist Village is the Shanghumukham Beach known as a popular tourist hub. Shanghumukham beach is the favorite place for travelers because of its beautiful mermaid structure called Sagarakanyaka by the locally renowned artist Kanai Kunjiraman.

Beachside attractions are the mermaid, starfish restaurant, indoor recreation club and Nehru Park. Indoor recreation club which conducts regular coaching sessions in badminton, table tennis and skating. Jawaharlal Nehru Park is a playground for kids with an added intention. That is to teach them traffic rules through play. Veli Tourist Village is a popular picnic spot near Shanghumugham beach where tourist uses the boat to reach. It is bordered by lagoon on one side and sea on the other. Another attraction is Valiyathura Pier which projects into the sea and can be walked to enjoy a spectacular view of the sea and the shoreline. Shanghumugham is a city beach, the beach of the capital.

Shanghumugham beach has an important role in the Hindu heritage of the city. Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple at Trivandrum, famous globally for the massive treasure find worth $22 billion, celebrates two festivals yearly which are attended by many tourists.
