Kathakali is one of the most famous and celebrated dance-form of India. It originated in southwestern state of Kerala in the town named Travancore approximate 400 years ago. 'Katha' means story and 'Kali' means dance and it is the beautiful amalgamation of dance and theatre. There are no dialogue in the show and all the narration happens mainly through gestures and expressions made by the performers. The artist are trained to do the makeups on their own and the makeups are prepared by rice powder of various colors. The performance is usually for 2 hours and rigorously trained performers bring to life mythological tales with ease and perfection.
