About Mattupetti Dam

Basically, a dam acts as a brier which restricts the flow of water in a direction. With the help of dams, even electricity is generated. This mattupetti dam which is located in Munnar is quite popular due to its ideal location. This dam is a storage concrete gravity dam. This dam was built in the 1940s under the pallivasal hydroelectric power project.

This dam nestles in the hills of Munnar near the anamudi peak. This place- mattupetti is at an astonishing height of about 1700 meters. This place is located about 13 km from Munnar hill station. This is the place from where the entire city of Munnar gets its power supply. As there is a plenty of water could even see wildlife near this dam.

This dam is popular for its scenic views and photographic points. The most amazing part of this place is the still water which reflects the tea gardens of Kerala. Special water activities like speed boating are also available at this place. Trekker may visit shola forest which is quite renowned for trekking.
