About Marayoor

This sandalwood haven is located 40km from Munnar. Although Kerala does not have many sandalwood grooves, this is one of the few places In Kerala that has natural sandalwood tree growth. Apart from this place, there is no other place with natural growth of sandalwood trees. For a natural growth of sandalwood trees, a reduced rainfall is required.

This place has the beautiful mesmerizing scent/aroma of sandalwood which will attract a lot of nature lovers and tourists. To be straightforward marayoor is a pristine, unexplored tourist spot which will make curious about this place. The adventurer can even try out this place. The marayoor houses muniyaras or in short stone coffins which date back to the Neolithic period. The paintings in here depict Lord Rama and Sita with few paintings of even Pandavas.

If you get tired, there is a park called Rajiv Gandhi national park nearby. This place is ideal for picnics and to spend family time together. The temperature varies from rock bottom 8 degrees to 30 degrees in summer. There are a good number of facilities provided to the tourists in this very place.
