Kumbh Mela is very popular, holy congregation of Hindus. The devotees from all over the county gather in large numbers to attain salvation and bathe in the holy river waters. This is the largest gathering of its kind and is held every 12 years for Purna Kumbha and every 6 years for Ardh Kumbha. This pious festival is held in 4 places in India: Nashik, Ujjain, Haridwar and Allahabad.
The holy gathering occurs when the Jupiter makes an ascent into the sun sign Leo's quarter and is called Simhastha Kumbh Mahaparv. Bathing in the holy water of Shipra river begins on full moon day and continues till the full moon in the month of Vaishaka.
