About Kamakhya temple

The famous Kamakhya temple is situated atop rhe Nilanchal hills in the western part of Guwahati. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and a revered shrine of Shakti in India. Kamakhya temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Desire and a celebratory for the Tantrik sect of Hinduism. The shrine holds tremendous religious, historic and archeological significance.

Kamakhya is the presiding diety of rhe temple but the 10 Mahavidyas also make an appearance in the temple. The entrance of the temple is beautifully designed with elegant carvings, lightly decorated with colourful flowers. The temple has a massive dome which overlooks the Nilanchal hills in the background. It is one of the oldest temples in India and has a long, illustrious history associated with itself.
