Gaumukh Kund is a sacred water body situated on the western part of the famous Chittorgarh Fort. 'Gaumukh' means the 'mouth of a cow'. The water flows by the cracks in the rocks and in due course, falls into the reservoir. This reservoir was the main source of water for the fort and palaces. The Reservoir is located in midsts of sceneic spots attracting many tourists.
Here travellers feed the fishes of the reservoir which is a major entertainment spot for all the visitors. The Kund is paved with the famous Rani Bindar Tunnel which is a noted attraction. According to a legend, this tunnel leads to an underground chamber, where Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh committed Jauhar. The Kund is also acquainted with a Shivling and of Goddess Lakshmi adorn the base of the Gaumukh where the water falls.The place is believed to be a holy place and Hindus need to visit the Gaumukh Kund in Chittorgarh to complete their holy journey.
