Cankamana

Cankamana is one of the most sacred part of the main temple or the Mahabodhi temple. It is believed to the way where Lord Buddha had walked while mediation on the third week of meditation. The spots or the footsteps he walked into here is carved or marked  with lotuses of black stone.

According to legend, if anyone encircle the Mahabodhi temple in a direction of clockwise, the wishes get granted as they encounter with the Cankamana shrine which features ious articles which is sacred of the presence of Lord Buddha.  One may find ious images of Lord Buddha’s disciplines in the shrine.  The monks often chant mantras to create soothing atmosphere.
