List of places to explore in Northeast India is incomplete until Assam State Museum falls in the poll and why not, this museum hold tales and evidences of the rich past of this region. Every year the museum attracts a large number of tourists and one of the many reasons is its location. It is located in the heart of Guwahati city in Dighali Pukhuri Tank and is easily accessible from any part of city. Ancient manuscripts, arms & ammunitions, handicrafts, metal sculptures, artifacts, coins & currency and a lot more, all dating back to the Ahom dynasty, Mughal period and World War II are displayed in a very well preserved form.
One can tour this beautiful showcase of Assamee culture from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. in summers and 10 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. in winters. The musuem stays close on Monday and 2nd and 4th Saturday.
