About 50 kms from Mahabalipuram, in the village of Kadappakkam lies the Alamparai Fort. It was contributed during the Mughal period and has a 100 meter Harbour stretched into the sea. The export of salt, ghee and zara are done from the Harbour. The Mughal ruled the Fort. It got destroyed by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.
It served as a sea port in the ancient times. After the Mughal, the control of the fort passed to the French. The French lost it to British and then the fort got demolished in 1760.
