About Shuanglin Temple

The Shuanglin Temple is a huge Buddhist sanctuary in the Shanxi Province of China. It is arranged in the field of Qiaotou town about 6 – 7 kilometers southwest of the antiquated city of Pingyao. It is among the numerous social landmarks situated in the Pingyao, which is an UNESCO World Heritage site recorded in 1997. The sanctuary is secured by the state organization. Established in the 6th century, the sanctuary is remarkable for its gathering of in excess of 2,000 improved earth statues that are dated to the 12th ,19th centuries. Its unique name was Zongdu yet it was renamed amid the Northern Song Dynasty period as Shuanglin. It is nicknamed the exhibition hall of shaded models.
The vast majority of them are dated to the time of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. The etched figures are shown in an exceptionally orderly way, in ten halls. The sanctuary complex seems like a post as it has a high compound divider with a door. The ten corridors are orchestrated inside three courtyards. The sanctuary is noted for its beautiful figures, similar in frame, which were designed on the structure of the aesthetic customs of the Song, Jin and Yuan periods. The topics portrayed are commonly religious in nature and identify with the every day life of individuals. They are considered among the best instances of Chinese hued models.
