Elmwood Cemetery

Set up in 1852, Historic Elmwood Cemetery is the most established dynamic burial ground in the city and one of the main cases of a garden graveyard in the South. It has a recreation center like setting with landmarks, old trees, and beautiful vistas. Initially comprising of 40 sections of land, it was extended to 80 sections of land after the American Civil War. Some of the catacombs, landmarks, and statues are embellished with portrayals of blessed messengers, blossoms, and different plants, an indication of the Victorian time's perspective of death. Numerous veterans are covered here from the American Revolutionary War up to the Vietnam War.
