Municipal Museum of Ciutadella

The Municipal Museum of Ciutadella - Bastio de sa Font, is a museum of history and archeology of general theme with a permanent exhibition on the history of Ciudadela and the island, from prehistoric times to the Muslim period and the arrival of Alfonso III in 1287. Thus, from the exposed archaeological objects, visitors can take a tour of the different historical stages of the island. In 1935 the Historical Art Museum of Ciutadella was inaugurated in the basement of the town hall. As of 1995, its location is in the building of the Bastio de sa Font, which has the highest category of protection of historical heritage to be d BIC. It was one of five bastions to protect the five doors that opened on the walls.

The bastion originally had a cistern function and was supplied with rainwater. The permanent exhibition begins with the beginning of the settlement of the island and with a showcase dedicated to the pre-Talayotic period and to the ways of life and customs of this moment, it continues with the Talayotic stage, to which a large set of showcases is dedicated to explain the ways of life, customs and relationships of this endemic and representative culture of Menorca and Mallorca. To finish this period, there is a showcase dedicated to the origins of Christianity in Menorca and the Early Christian basilicas.
