About Formos Castle

The Formos Castle, otherwise called La Suda Castle, was an Andalusian mansion and, later, the royal residence of the Counts of Urgel in the city of Balaguer. The manor is situated by the waterway Segre in the city of Balaguer, north of the capital of the territory of Lleida. Close to the mansion is the Sant Llorenc de Montgai store. This is found around in the focal point of the territory. In 897, Lubb Ibn Muhammad requested the development of the palace or hisn de Balaguer, in where the Pla de Almata military settlement was found.
Somewhere in the range of 1045 and 1082, Yusuf al-Muzaffar made the post a castle, which turned into the living arrangement of the senator. In 1105 Armengol VII , check of Urgel, vanquished Balaguer. There he set up the province capital, sanctifying through water it castell Formos. In the year 1413, the manor was demolished amid the attack of Balaguer, with regards to the revolt of the Count of Urgel, when he was ambushed by the troops of Ferdinand I of Aragon. It was reestablished later. It is an Artistic Historical Monument since 1988.
