About Racaciuni
Raccoons is a commune in Bacau County, Moldova, Romania, along with Ciucani, Fundu Racaciuni, Gasteni, Gheorghe Doja, Racaciuni and Rastoaca. In the beyond, the property belonged to the family of Moldovan ruler Gheorghe Stefan. At the end of the 19th century, the commune was a part of the Bistrita de Jos net of Bacau County and had the villages Racaciuni, Gasteni, Teius, Satu Nou and Berindesti, with 2201 population.
In the commune there had been 3 water mills, one steam, blended schools - one opened in 1865 at Racaciuni with 55 students and one in Gasteni with 13 college students - two Orthodox and one Catholic church buildings. At that time, Fundu-Racaciuni, Fundu Racaciuni, Ciocani, Curmatura and Gasteni, with a total of 1066 inhabitants dwelling in 320 homes, were functioning within the same area. The commune is located within the south of the county, at the right financial institution of Siret in front of the dam and the reservoir of Racaciuni reservoir, and within the hydrographic basin of its prosperous Racaciuni with its prosperous Valea Lunga.
