Tharad

Tharad is a town in Tharad taluka in the Banaskantha district of the state of Gujarat in India. It is the regulatory focal point of Tharad taluka. Tharad is close to the outskirt of Gujarat, 40 km from the fringe with Pakistan and 15 km from the Indian province of Rajasthan. The town was a royal state governed by the Vaghela Rajputs, and the larger part of its populace take after the religion of Hinduism. Its fundamental businesses are farming and precious stone cleaning.

It is one of the principal significant towns in Gujarat on National Highway 15. Tharad is said to have initially had a place with Parmar Rajputs, and numerous Parmars of the Su and Kalma families were found in subordinate positions in the Tharad towns amid British period. As per a Jain record, the remainder of the Parmar line turned into a change over to the Jainism, and surrendered his chiefdom to his sister's child, the Chauhan Saregogji Ratansingji of Nadol, a precursor of the Rana of Vav, in 1275 Samvat 1331.

Others say that the Chauhan murdered his maternal uncle and usurped the chiefdom. The Chauhans, with the title of Rana, ruled at Tharad for around six ages, till, in the rule of Rana Punjaji, they were assaulted by the Muslims, their capital raged, and their main killed. Another record says that the Chauhan Rajputs were driven out by the Rathods of Jodhpur, who were prevailing by the Muslims in fifteenth century.
