Shukrawari lake is another lake enlisted among the 11 lakes in Nagpur. It is also known by the names of Shukrawari Talao, Gandhi Sagar Lake and Jumma lake. Located near the Raman Science Center, this lake has existed for over 275 years. It was made as a source of water supply by Chand Sultan, the then ruler of Nagpur.
This water body was created in the form of streams directed to the Nag River which was connected to the water reservoir and named as Jumma Talab. It got the name of Shukrawari Talab during the Bhonsla and British periods.
The picturesque view the lake provides attracts many visitors daily. The Gandhi Sagar reservoir is enclosed with stonewall and iron railings. In the middle of the lake is a tiny island, with a Shiva temple and a garden which shines with yellow mercury light at night. Boating facilities are available for visitors.
