About Menmecho Lake

Located at an altitude of 12,500 feet, Menmecho Lake is a mountain lake in East Sikkim. It is one of the most beautiful lakes in the state. Surrounded by virgin pine forests and the Himalayan Mountains, the lake is said to change colors every minute.

It lies on the way to the Jelep La Pass. The source of the water is the River Rangpo Chu, a tributary of the Teesta River. The Lake stays frozen during the winter months. A 4 km long winding road leads up to the lake and the only way to reach it would be to trek across this path. Apart from its striking beauty, Menmecho Lake is also famous for its trout population.
