Also known as Tsomgo Lake, this is one of the most spectacular tourist attractions in Sikkim. Located in the lap of snow-covered mountains, Changu Lake stands at an elevation of 3,753 meters above sea-level.
It is a glacial lake and remains completely frozen in winters. The best feature of the lake is the fact that the lake surface changes colors according to the seasons. At the end of winter season, the surrounding area is dressed in bright hues of colorful rhododendrons, irises, blue and yellow poppies. Tourists can also enjoy yak and mule rides, besides admiring the picturesque landscape.
The lake lies on the road to Nathula Pass. The surrounding alpine forests are home to a iety of wildlife, including the rare Red Panda. A small temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, lies nearby.
