Matho Monastery

Matho Monastery is located in south east of Leh in Ladakh,Jammu and Kashmir on the banks of the Indus River. The village of Matho is located at the mouth Zanskar Range. It is opposite Thiksey Monastery. It is known for its  annual Oracle Matho Nagrang Festival which is held on 15th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar. Collection of thangkas dating back is also a home to Matho. Their you can see very colourful paintings and a Sakyamuni Buddha as statue. It was constructed about 500 years ago. Here one can see marvelous collection of ancient Thangas. Here you can understand Buddhist teachings and philosophies. Main attraction of this place is Stakna Gompa. so,it is worth visiting this place once in life time.
