About Lothal and Dholavira

When you are in Gujarat, you must not miss out the chance to visit Dholavira and Lothal, the two 6000 year old cities. Dholavira is the larger exacavation of the Indus Valley Civilization, while Lothal is the excavation which is easier to reach.

Dholavira tells you the story of the 7 stages of civilization. A visit to this archaelogical site can help you form an idea of the civilization that existed. The architecture of Dholavira has a rectangular shape, geometrically planned having a citadel, lower town and middle town. The history buffs can take a walk through the ancient city and the musuem in the excavation site.

Lothal is another prominent city of the Indus valley civilization. It was a trade center of the ancient times. It is famous for its huge shipping dock, the remains of which can still be seen. There is a large warehouse next to which lies the upper main city.

Travelling to Lothal and Dholavira will take you back in time, where you can explore the remains of the Indus Valley civilization.
