About Gulab Bagh and Zoo

Gulab Bagh is the largest garden in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. It is unfold over 100 acres of land. The garden has innumerable forms of roses. Gulab Bagh receives its name from the abundance of rose plants it has. Gulab Bagh, also called Sajjan Niwas Garden, become built by way of Maharana Sajjan Singh inside the 1881. It is the fourth oldest zoo inside the semi-continent. It spans across sixty six acres of land, and is hailed as one of the most stunning and biggest garden in Rajasthan.

By Maharana's volition, a horticulturist from Madras, T.H. Story, become appointed in 1882 to inventory the lawn with plant life with medicinal values at the 66.5 acres of land and labored there till 1920. The lawn consisted of a Lotus Pond, and plenty of outstanding trees that protected many species of mangoes, guava, grapes, lemon, bor, mulbury, rayan, pomegranate, bananas, sapota, tamarind, bullock’s heart, lichi, arjun trees, wood apple, karonda, campher, citron, jamun, pummelo, meetha neem, kargi lime, ficus species, anola, jack fruit, dhanverjia, grandi vegetation, jasmin, dawood and so on. In the year 1882, all of the trees had their call-plates denoting Hindi, English, and systematic botanical names, which are not the same now.
