The Bhartrihari temple located near the River Shipra is one of the frequented temples in Ujjain. It has the cave of the famous sage, Bhartrihari. The temple has a history to it. It dates back to the ages when the great priest and philosopher, Bhartrihari meditated on the banks of River Shipra.
It is believed that the shining river granted his prayers. The cave was named after him later and people visit the caves to pay homage to him. The sage, Bhartrihari is known to be the step brother of Vikramaditya.
