About Bara-Lacha Pass
Bara-lacha pass also known as Bara-lacha la is a high mountain pass in Zanskar range, connecting Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir situated along the Leh-Manali highway. The pass is situated at an altitude of sixteen thousand and forty feet height. It is a high plateau where three different mountain ranges- Pir panjal, Zaskar and the Great Himalayas- meet at an altitude above sixteen thousand feet.
The pass is covered with snow and it falls on the way from Leh to Manali, before Keylong. The way is a good blend of thrill and exciting where sometimes it mesmerizes and sometimes it provides that scary adrenaline rush. The pass is the point of commencement for several treks which include the famous Suraj Tal trek and Chandra Tal trek. During winter season the pass is kept closed due to heavy rainfall. During months of April to October perhaps is the best time to visit the pass as the snow melts and road is much safer for the travelers.
