About Porte de la Craffe

The old name of this strengthened access of Nancy was the entryway of the Bordes this word assigned the cottages shielding the tired infectious rejected of Nancy. The name of Craffe showed up toward the start of the fifteenth century; its significance stays strange, two historical backgrounds appear to be applicable: in old French escraffe or grafe assigned either an example in the state of a shell which would have enhanced the upper key of the primary entryway, or a huge metal staple gathering stones matched.

The stupendous entryway of the Craffe vouches for the nature of the defensive fenced in area of the city toward the finish of the fourteenth century. In fact, its two twin towers, worked in 1463, have dividers of three meters thick which opposed valiantly to the city situates in 1476 and 1477 by Charles the Bold. The windows were masterminded so as to encourage shooting every which way; crows of stones some time ago bolstered screens ensuring the protectors posted at these openings.

The north and south passageways were surmounted by a bretèche whose shade permitted to assault the aggressors with shots, oil and bubbling pitch. The north passageway has been fundamentally changed since its creation.
