About Chateau dAngouleme

The Chateau d'Angouleme was a mansion in the town of Angouleme, in the Charente departement of France. The main outstanding parts are the keep of Lusignan and the pinnacle of Valois, which are a piece of the Town Hall of Angouleme, together with a development of the 19th century. The present remains including the polygonal keep, called Tour de Lusignan, the chatelet, and the round Valois Tower date from the 12th to 15th century. The polygonal keep was manufactured 1282– 1302, and the Valois Tower was worked in the late 15th century.

Amid the 15th century, a square pavillon was added to the Tour Marguerite. This pavillon incorporated a polygonal turret containing the staircase. Toward the finish of the 15th century were built star formed strongholds; two turrets stayed in lament Belat and mourn du Sauvage. The medieval pieces of the manor have been recorded as landmark historique by the French Ministry of Culture since 1929. The duke of Epernon, legislative head of Angoumois, got Marie de' Medici when she got away in 1619.

After, the manor turned into the living arrangement of the governors. In 1840, the town purchased the manor to house the Town Hall. The civic chairman, Paul Joseph Normand de la Tranchade, charged the modeler Paul Abadie to build up the venture, who destroyed a segment of the medieval structures. The keep and a pinnacle were protected gratitude to the weight of the Archeological and Historical Society of Charente.
