At this point you may have gotten the spire bug, so a trip to Douai will be all together, and it's only a couple of minutes west of Lens. Douai's fourteenth century spire is a standout amongst the most amazing of the neighborhood UNESCO-recorded steeples. This has much to do with the chimes, which was introduced in 1391 and was extended in the 1970s to wind up one of the biggest in Europe, with 62 ringers. Some of these ringers are as old as the steeple itself.
