Zoo Lille

When it was created in 1950, the Lille Zoo is just one of the spaces of a children's leisure park. It includes only a few enclosures housing farm animals and, from 1953, two rows of aviaries. It also includes collections of game feathered and feathered, ducks, chickens and roosters, pigeons, pheasants, peacocks and others, housed in the ditches of the Citadel and around. Grizzly bears are also presented to the public, even if their presence is much criticized. At that time, the zoological park is maintained by the municipal garden department and mainly houses animals confiscated by customs, or exotic animals abandoned by their owners.
