Emaischen Luxembourg
About Emaischen Luxembourg
The Emaischen competition is widely known every Easter Monday inside the village of Nospelt within the south of Luxembourg as well as inside the Fish Market within the City of Luxembourg. Little earthenware whistles formed like birds and called peckvillercher are a unique feature of the event. Traditionally they have been exchanged between enthusiasts however today they may be famous with all the ones taking part in the celebrations. Nospelt was once a village of potters who might make the little birds from the small amounts of clay left over at the cease of the day. With a huge variety of points of interest and games, the Emaischen is in particular popular with children. There is also people-dancing inside the streets and lots to eat and drink. The origins of the festival aren't too clean however there can be a reference to the Biblical connection with a potter within the Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 18. In any case, there seem to have been numerous breaks inside the tradition.
