The Traunsee is with 191 m depth the deepest lake of Austria . It is located in Upper Austria and after the Attersee the second largest lake in Upper Austria. On July 31, 1910, a boat accident occurred during the crossing from Hoisen to Traunkirchen due to a heavy storm, in which 15 mostly young people drowned. In August 1911, in the local cemetery of Traunkirchen, a marble memorial stone was placed over a mass grave behind the choir of the parish church.
