About Salzburg Cathedral

Salzburg Cathedral is the seventeenth-century Baroque house of prayer of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salzburg in the city of Salzburg, Austria, devoted to Saint Rupert and Saint Vergilius. Saint Rupert established the congregation in 774 on the leftovers of a Roman town, the church building was revamped in 1181 after a fire. In the seventeenth century, the basilica was totally reconstructed in the Baroque style under Prince-Bishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau to its present appearance. Salzburg Cathedral still contains the baptismal textual style in which arranger Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized. Saint Vergilius of Salzburg built the main house of God perhaps utilizing the establishments of St. Rupert.

The main Dom was recorded in 774. The purported Virgil Dom was worked from 767 to 774 and was 66 meters in length and 33 meters wide. Diocese supervisor Arno 785 – 821 masterminded the main remodel of the Dom, under 70 years after its finish. In 842, the building consumed after a lightning strike. After three years, work started to modify the structure. Under Archbishop Hartwig, the haven extended toward the west with expansion of a choir and sepulcher in the vicinity of 1000 and 1080. Ecclesiastical overseer Konrad I included the west towers from 1106 to 1147.
