Mr. Rajiv Mehrishi, the Union Home Secretary said that the government officials can now get the required information about an applicant from the national database of crimes and criminals. Hence, all the information about the applicants should be linked with the passport service of the External Affairs Ministry.

While having a conversation with the reporters about CCTNS, Mr Rajiv Mehrishi said, “Police in some states is already using CCTNS for passport credentials. Police will be given handheld devices to go to an applicant’s address and his or her details will be uploaded on the network. It will minimise contact of an individual with police and reduce time for getting a passport.”

Other services such as tenant verification are also present in this project and this can be done after taking the permission of the person who is being verified. A lot of measures have been taken to safeguard the project.
This project has come into existence because of Mr. Rajnath Singh who has launched the Digital Police portal, thereby included 15,398 police stations which allowed citizens to report crimes online.Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the CCTNS has now enabled 13,775 out of a total of 15,398 police stations, and eventually it will incorporate all of them; also, 5000 offices of supervisory police officers across the country.
