About Transfiguration Cathedral in Odessa

This Cathedral was raised an impermanent church, and by 1808 it was supplanted by the congregation that you can see today. The principle sacred place of the house of God was blessed for the sake of the Transfiguration of Christ, the right-hand sacrificial stone for the sake of St. Nicholas of Myra, and the left-hand sacrificial stone was sanctified for the sake of St. Spyridon.

In 1837 there was fabricated a tall ringer tower, and the Transfiguration Cathedral turned into the principle church of Odessa. In 1856 the ruler Vorontsov kicked the bucket who was the representative general of New Russia, and dwelled at the Vorontsovsky castle in Odessa for quite a few years. As he made an extraordinary commitment to the improvement of Odessa, it was chosen to cover him and afterward his significant other at the Transfiguration Cathedral.
