About Rakovac Monastery

The Rakovac religious community church is devoted to SS Cosmas and Damian and lies on the northern inclines of Fruska Gora Mountain, other than the Rakovac stream. The congregation of Rakovac Monastery is the one-nave structure of engraved cross-premise, with the semi-roundabout apse, secured with the vault which sits on the curves, bolstered on four square columns. There is a similitude between the places of worship of the Rakovac and Krusedol Monasteries and the Church of Saint Nicholas in Slankamen, as every one of them has been worked by the standards of the Serbian Morava school of design.

The Rakovac Monastery is a Serb Orthodox religious community on the Fruska Gora mountain in the northern Serbian area of Vojvodina. The religious community of Rakovac with its congregation devoted to the Holy Healers Cosmas and Damian, as the convention has it, was established by Raka Milosevic, Chief Chamberlain to Despot Jovan Brankovic, as indicated by a legend written in 1704. The legend expresses that Raka raised the religious community in 1498. The most punctual verifiable records saying the religious community is dated to 1545/1546.

Inside, there are pieces of the frescoes on the dividers which date from the principal half of the sixteenth century. The elaborate ringer tower was appended in 1735, and the private building picked up its last, three-territory shape in 1771. The symbols on the rococo iconostasis were painted by Vasilije Ostojie in 1763, while the divider sketches in the refectory are 1768 works of Amvrosije Jankovic. Rakovac Monastery was proclaimed Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1990, and it is ensured by the Republic of Serbia.
