About Schitu Duca
Schitu Duca is a commune in Iasi County, Moldova, Romania, inclusive of Blaga villages, Dumitrestii Galatii, Pocreaca, Poiana, Poieni, Satu Nou, Schitu Duca and Slobozia. At the give up of the 19th century, the commune changed into named after Poiana Carnului, it became a part of the Crasna net of Vaslui County and it consisted of the villages of Poiana, Hiltita, Trestiana, Pocreaca, Slobozia Milului, Dumitrestii Galatei, Schitu Duca, Schitu Dumitresti and Blaga, with a total of 2439 inhabitants.
There had been four mills inside the commune, one school and four church buildings. The Socec Yearbook of 1925 statistics it inside the Codasti vicinity of the equal county, having 2900 inhabitants in the villages Blaga, Dumitrestii Ducai, Dumitrestii Galatei, Pocreaca, Poiana Carnului, Schitu Duca, Slobozia and Trestiana. In 1931, the commune's name changed into modified to Poieni. The commune is positioned in the southeast of the county, on the border with Vaslui county, inside the upper route of the Vasluiet River. It is crossed by the country wide street DN24, connecting Iasi to Vaslui.
