Grand Mosque of Constan?a Romanian: Marea Moschee din Constan?a, at the start known as the Carol I Mosque is a mosque in Constan?a, Romania. It is listed as an historic monument via the Romanian National Institute of Historical Monuments. The Grand Mosque of Constan?a stands on the web site of the previous Mahmudia Mosque Geamia Mahmudia, built in 1822 with the aid of Haf?z Hüsseyin Pa?a and named after Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. The Grand Mosque of Constan?a became commissioned in 1910 with the aid of Romanian King Carol I. Construction commenced on 24 June 1910 with the first cornerstone laid within the presence of Spiru Haret, present day Romanian Minister of Religious Affairs; Sefa Bey, cutting-edge Ottoman ambassador in Bucharest; and the Ottoman consul in Constan?a.
