About Porta San Michele

The Gulf of Patti extends between Capo Calavà and Capo Milazzo, which protrudes into the sea in the shape of a sickle. At the center Capo Tindari, crowned by the sanctuary, divides in two this wide bay that is an almost uninterrupted succession of beaches, summer destinations of the sun lovers.Patti - It is a town in the hinterland that stretches over the sea with Marina di Patti, where the remains of a Roman villa have recently been found. The historical core of the city still partly preserves the medieval fabric of narrow alleys, surmounted by arches, grouped around the Cathedral.
It was elevated to a bishopric by King Ruggero in 1131, named a royal city by Frederick III of Aragon in 1312. Patti received the title of "magnanimous" from Charles V, for having paid a generous tribute to the crown. Very little remains of this important past, due to the damage caused by earthquakes especially that of 1693.
